- The M14 is based on the real-life M14 rifle, a selective fire automatic rifle, chambered for the 7.62×51mm NATO. As the standard issue US military rifle from 1959 to 1970, the M14 was the first US service rifle chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO and the last to be chambered in a full-power rifle cartridge.
- The real M14 is not considered an assault rifle. Its 7.62x51mm chambering makes it a battle rifle, as it fires a full power rifle round. Also, the real M14 was typically issued with 20 round magazines, as opposed to the 30 round magazine in the game.
