Notes[]
- The AK47 in-game is based on the AKM, an improved and modernized assault rifle and successor to the AK-47 assault rifle developed in Russia during the 1940's, by Mikhail Kalashnikov. It was developed in the 1950's and was introduced into the Soviet service in 1959. The rifle is chambered in 7.62x39mm, and is capable of selective fire. The rifle's production ceased in the 1970's and was replaced by the AK-74, but still remains in use worldwide like it's predecessor.
- The name refers to the AK-47, a select fire assault rifle developed in Russia during the 1940's, by Mikhail Kalashnikov, chambered in 7,62Ć39 mm cartridges. It was designed to be a cheap and reliable infantry rifle. The AK-47 ceased production in the late 1950's and was replaced by the AKM, but still remains in use worldwide.
- In-game, the AK-47 uses the same ammo as the M1A, Socom II, and M14 rifles (all of Springfield Armory manufacture), among others. In reality these Springfield Armory rifles use the much harder-hitting 7.62x51 mm NATO cartridges (and/or .308 Winchester), rather than the 7.62x39 ".30 Russian short" actually used by the AK-47 and AKM. Presumably this concession is in-line with keeping ammo types to a manageable level for gaming balance and facility. The in-game description does not address this "unusual" AK-47 chambering.
